We recently received an e-mail from a customer who was struggling with his first metal cock ring.

He wrote:  "What is the best way to put on and take off a cock ring?  I seem to cause myself some pain when I do it.  Should I let my partner put it on me and then take it off?  I consider myself 'new' to this. I purchased one from you months ago and I hardly use it because I seem to have trouble putting it on and taking it off.  I assume you should be "soft".'

Gear essentials' response:

I am sorry to read that you haven’t been enjoying your new cock ring!  Metal rings require a gentle touch!

In the shower:

I generally put mine on while in my morning shower.  At that point I am in the hot water so my balls are at their lowest.

One ball at a time:

Assuming I am flaccid (if you are hard it is nearly impossible) I pull my right ball through the cock ring.  (I start with my right ball because it hangs the lowest.)  If it is slippery I rinse and then actually pinch my loose scrotum skin and pull it through.  You may have larger balls—if so, make sure you have pulled through plenty of skin so your ball has somewhere to go, and then squeeze your right ball through the ring.  (Large balls can make this more challenging.)

Ball 2:

Once the first ball is through, pull more of your scrotum through the ring so you have room for your second ball.  (By this point, most of your ball sack has been pulled through.  Your left ball will have nowhere else to go.)  You may need to gently squeeze your left ball to get it through the ring.  Once your balls are through it is just a matter of getting your shaft through.  Generally this is pretty easy unless you are excited at this point (this has been known to happen!)

Reach for the Soap:

Now both of your balls are through the ring.  Take a bit of soap and gently soap up your dick (don’t get too carried away here or you will get too hard!)  This in effect lubes your dick.  Hold the ring up with one hand (so gravity pulls your balls down and out of the way leaving you some room), bend your penis (when flaccid this is totally painless) and slide the head of your dick through the ring.  Pull your penis firmly down and snug the ring up against your pubic bone.  At this point you should be good to go.

Feel free to e-mail back with questions—we want you to love your cock ring as much as we do! I hope this helps you—the feel of a cock ring is hot and of course it is great for having sex!

Taking it off:

This is really just the reverse of the 'putting on' process.  If you are taking it off and have just had sex, the remaining lube will make the job easy.  Just start by pulling your dick out (when flaccid) and then a ball at a time.  If you don't have lube handy, hand lotion will work well (to make your dick slippery so it will easily slide out).  If you can’t get rid of a boner (and thinking about baseball doesn’t help!) you can try a cool shower to shrink your erection.

As you grow more comfortable with it, this process will become second nature.  I wear a cock ring every day—I put it on in the shower and take it off when I’m ready to go to sleep. It’s almost like brushing my teeth.  (Sometimes I have to reach down to make sure I took it off—it’s so automatic.)

You may have a little fear wrapped up in this process at this point.  That makes everything tougher.  I love my dick (and I’m assuming you love yours) so the last thing I want to do is damage anything!  Just relax, take your time and get comfy.  Once you feel comfortable with it—that’s the time for your partner to play with your cock ring as well.  That can be very erotic and fun—but make sure you are comfortable first.

And ENJOY!
